Job Description

Geotechnical Contractors have a Civil Engineering focus on the foundations of buildings. They conduct detailed technical analysis of earth material and risk assessments of the geological hazards.

They also assess the integrity and composition of the ground in and around the construction site prior to the project beginning.

Geotechnical Contractors provide assistance to Architects and Contractors in the design phase to determine the suitability of the land chosen for construction and will be involved with projects related to roads, bridges and tunnels as well as various types of building.

Entry Routes and Competencies Required

Degree

  • Relevant subjects include: Geology, Geography, Geophysics, Geotechnology, Civil Engineering, Physics and other Engineering degrees
  • A-Level (or equivalent) requirements will vary depending on the subject you choose but could be up to A*AA including Maths, Sciences and Geography related subjects

Career progression from Environmental Engineer

Salary Range

Salaries will vary depending on experience, the company and location of the job. However, per year, you could expect to earn:

  • Newly trained Contractor - £21,000 - £23,000
  • Trained Contractor with experience - £25,000 - £50,000
  • Senior or Chartered Contractor - up to £100,000

Professional Qualifications and Career Development

Geotechnical Contractors may progress on to positions such as Project Director, as well as becoming members of any professional bodies you degree permits you to.
