Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a major component of indoor environmental quality, which is a physical function of occupant wellbeing. Quantifying indoor air quality through measurement and analysis informs building owners, operators, and occupants, of ventilation system effectiveness and the safety of the environment we live, work, and socialise in.
BSRIA offers comprehensive IAQ testing to meet the requirements of dedicated schemes and to identify, mitigate and implement IAQ strategies. Problems associated with IAQ are preventable and solvable either at the design stage, when planning refurbishment, or during occupancy.
BSRIA is UKAS accredited to carry out testing of formaldehyde (CH2O) to BS EN 16000-3 and total volatile organic compounds (tVOC / TVOC) to BS EN 16000-6. BSRIA also provides a bespoke IAQ Plan service in accordance with the BREEAM requirements.
Our indoor air quality services include testing in accordance with the requirements for BREEAM, LEED and WELL.
These schemes are used to certify buildings for sustainability, efficiency and many other parameters. IAQ forms part of each scheme and the contaminants to be tested vary as do the acceptable limits.
The following matrix outlines the typical contaminants to be measured for each of the three schemes. Lower limits and/or additional contaminants can be measured to meet enhanced/exemplary requirements for LEED and WELL.
Testing packages can be customised to include additional contaminant measurements including:
