Martin is a chartered engineer in Building Services. He has spent half his working life in the building services industry and half in academia. In industry he worked for Roger Preston and Partners (now part of Grontmij) where he was involved in the design of mechanical services on many large projects and with particular responsibility for energy efficiency and sustainability.

He spent 13 years as a senior lecturer at the former National College (part of London South Bank University) where he taught a range of mechanical building services including commissioning.

He is currently at Brunel University teaching fluid mechanics, heat transfer and building services and is a member of the Centre for Energy and Built Environment Research group. He has co-authored a book on Heating Systems (Blackwell 2003) and CIBSE publications including the 2013 Guide B.

He now lectures BSRIA's Introduction to Commissioning training course.
