Professional overview

David manages BSRIA's programme of technical publications. He also lectures on various BSRIA training courses and carries out consulting work in areas such as building regulations, renewable energy and design issues.

David has seven years of experience designing mechanical, electrical and public health systems with building services design consultancies both in the UK and the USA. During this time he worked on a variety of projects in residential, commercial and educational sectors.

David has a Masters Degree in Architectural Engineering from Leeds University. This was a four year degree programme that included a year at Pennsylvania State University.

Career summary

David joined BSRIA in 2005 and has worked on numerous consulting projects including:

  • An assessment of a dwelling with an oil-fired boiler and underfloor heating which was not able to maintain comfortable conditions in the winter.
  • An assessment of the ability of a meat rendering plant to contain odours under various wind conditions.
  • A design and performance review on an art gallery which was experiencing a lack of control over temperature and humidity.
  • Detailed health & safety risk assessment reports on below-ground service ducts serving two hospitals, focusing on fire and explosion risk.

Prior to joining BSRIA, David was involved with various design projects including:

  • Mechanical, electrical and public health services for a new 7-storey luxury apartment building.
  • Mechanical, electrical and public health services for an office/showroom refurbishment.
  • Public health and specialist piped services for university research buildings in the USA.
  • Condition survey and design of improvements for sprinkler systems in an existing research facility in the USA.
  • Computer modelling of a campus-wide chilled water system at a US university, resulting in recommendations for placement of new chiller plant and upgrades to network.
