Overview

Commissioning is a vital phase in the production of building services systems and is defined as the advancement of an installation from the state of static completion to full working order to the specified requirements. 

The importance of commissioning is often underestimated by design and construction teams and hence it is often neglected in the hurry to get the building completed on time.

This course explains commissioning procedures in air and water systems and provides detailed examples of their implementation in real projects.

Who should attend

This course will help professionals in the building industry: building owners, design professionals, M&E installers, pre-commission cleaning contractors, and commissioning specialists.  You may also be an building energy performance assessor or required to witness commissioning.  A basic understanding of the layout of pipework and ductwork systems is required.

Course content

• Reasons for Commissioning:
  • Building regulations, reduced energy consumption and improved performance
  • BREEAM/LEED requirements and requirements of commissioning engineers
• Principles of air/water flow:
  • Velocity/flow rate relationship & static and velocity pressure
  • Pressure loss due to friction and system resistance
  • Principles of proportional balancing and fan/pump performance
• Pipework systems:
  • Pre-commission cleaning & flushing requirements
  • Volume flow rate measurement, commissioning valve sets & proportional balancing in practice
• Ventilation systems:
  • Pressure testing of ductwork, point and mean air velocities in ducts, disturbances to uniform air flow, measuring air velocity and volume flow rate in-duct
  • Measuring air velocity and volume flow rate from grilles, proportional balancing in practice, fan performance and specific fan power tolerances
