Overview

Notes that ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are an established technology with over 400 000 units installed world-wide (around 62% in the US.), with around 45 000 new units installed annually. They are receiving increasing interest in North America and Europe because of their potential to reduce primary energy consumption and thus reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The Department of Energy in the US. has identified GSHPs as the technology for space heating and cooling with the highest potential energy efficiency. Provides a detailed literature- based review of GSHP technology and looks in separate chapters at applications of the technology, applicable standards and regulations, financial and other benefits and the current market.
