Many buildings are sustainable and robust on paper, but not in reality. Soft Landings is a BSRIA-led process, developed through published guidance and the collaborative Soft Landings Network, that aims to help bridge the gap between design intent and actual performance.

This course will inform delegates about this quality-focused process that defines what clients require, establishes performance targets, continually reviews what is taking place, places greater emphasis on building readiness at handover and then stays involved with a building to fine-tune it and learn how it really performs.

Soft Landings is gaining momentum as a process to meet the needs of 21st century construction projects by:

  • being increasingly specified by clients
  • providing a means of earning credits in BREEAM for New Construction
  • being in the process of adoption for government procurement policy
  • assisting project teams deliver lower carbon buildings within constrained budgets

This one day training course will get delegates up to speed with this new best practice process.

Shortlisted for CIBSE's Building Performance Training Award

The aim of the course is to help Built Environment professionals to produce better buildings by adopting a project delivery process that places greater emphasis on performance-in-use. These better buildings will be operationally ready at handover, function in accordance with user and operator requirements and perform efficiently in use.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the economic, social and environmental drivers that are forcing the construction industry to place greater emphasis on building performance
  • Describe the reasons why buildings often do not perform as the client required and the project team intended
  • Recognise that Soft Landings is a quality assurance process that starts at project inception and continues for 36 months after building handover
  • State how and why Soft Landings can help project teams deliver better buildings
  • Describe the benefits that a correctly delivered Soft Landings process can deliver for construction project teams and their clients
  • Outline the Soft Landings activities that should take place at each of the eight stages of the construction project process
  • Evaluate if their company's approach to project delivery could benefit from the use of Soft Landings
