Rapid growth maintained in the UK construction industryJune 2014

The latest Markit/CIPS Construction Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) released in April recorded a score of 62.5 with a score of above 50 representing growth, confidence remains high in the construction market. The survey includes 170 construction companies.

With the Government announcing an extension of the successful “Help to Buy” scheme and an investment in larger infrastructure projects like flood defences, it is believed that the confidence will remain in place; however the survey did little to dispel the concerns on supplier capacity with sub-contractor, labour and construction materials are being seen as a possible obstruction that could see growth checked and cost prices rise.
