£10M grand challenge to make housing greenerMay 2009

BSRIA monitored the performance of 75 installed small wind turbines

This Technology Strategy Board (TSB) initiative aims to retrofit UK social housing in order to meet future targets in reduction of CO2 emissions and energy use. The competition 'Retrofit for the future' is open to all companies, including social landlords and those companies not currently engaged in the construction sector. The deadline for entries is 24 June 2009.

The competition is looking for proposals to develop and demonstrate whole dwelling solutions for refurbishment that deliver deep cuts in energy use and carbon emissions, high levels of comfort and attractive costs. Rather than using individual technologies each integrated whole dwelling solution will address all the aspects of the home that can be used to cut carbon emissions, including insulation, heating systems, ventilation, control systems and appliances. 100% funding will be offered for each accepted proposal through this initiative for the procurement of technology projects.

Support from BSRIA

BSRIA can support your entry by providing monitoring instrumentation (http://www.bis.fm) as well as calibration, fitting and independent performance measurement of the solution. BSRIA has recently monitored domestic hot water use and performance of small wind turbines on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust.
