BSRIA North is delighted to be staging the go-to industry Level 1 Airtightness Testing training course at its premises in Preston, Lancashire. Since BSRIA’s northern base officially opened for business last summer – members and wider industry based in the north of England – have embraced the opportunities created by the “northern powerhouse”.
Running from Monday 14th May for four days, this flagship course is being run due to oversubscription of the previous, recent course.
This course is supported by BSRIA’s industry-renowned technical guide.
Level 1 Airtightness Testing Monday 14th May – 09:30 hrs
Four-day training course
Since the 2006 changes to England & Wales Building Regulations and 2007 changes to the Northern Ireland Building Regulations, airtightness testing has been mandatory for new buildings. In Scotland, it became mandatory in 2011 starting with flats and maisonettes and later expanding to all new dwellings. In the case of new dwellings, a sample of dwellings on every development must be tested. Testers must either be registered through a scheme such as the ATTMA scheme, or demonstrate to building control that they are competent to test and are using UKAS-calibrated equipment.
This four-day course provides the theory behind airtightness testing as well as “hands on” training. It culminates in a three part examination which, when passed, will enable delegates to begin the process of registration. The practical demonstrations and practical exam on this course are carried out using Minneapolis blower door equipment.
Mike Lee, BSRIA Training Manager, said:
“This fantastic course is ideal for engineers, non-engineers and those new to the industry. It goes without saying that it will cover the full spectrum of airtightness know-how. And with the added benefit of being held at the state-of-the-art facilities at BSRIA North. Win win!
Many studies have shown substantial energy savings can be made by addressing airtightness.
It will equip members and industry with a great grounding in airtightness in the built environment along with the best technical expertise in the field. The course isn’t simply ‘chalk and talk’ – it is fully interactive with practical demonstrations and delegates will undertake simple example calculations.
The staging of such courses at its BSRIA North offices demonstrates BSRIA’s training commitment to the northern powerhouse. Indeed: there is a volcano of activity taking place in the north right now. I urge members and industry alike to book on now!”
