Construction leaders fear skills shortage will impact their businessOctober 2014

A Princes Trust and HSBC report shows continuing concern in the construction industry over a lack of skills. The survey found that more than three quarters of construction business leaders believe that a skills shortage will impact on their organisation within the next three years, with 45% predicting that it will happen within the next year.

Three in four construction bosses fear that the skills shortage will slam the brakes on the UK’s economic recovery and 36% have concerns on the long term viability of their business. The survey identified that 47% of construction employers were already experiencing difficulties in filling vacancies.

With a third of construction companies experiencing skills shortage at entry level, the Princes Trust are leading the call for construction employers to invest in vocational training for unemployed young people to avoid skills shortages.
