BSRIA Briefing 2018 - final speaker confirmedNovember 2018

BSRIA is delighted to confirm the final speaker at its flagship event – the annual Briefing and lunch: Will Squires, Digital Lead for Cities and Development and Aviation in SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business. Members and industry are urged to book on!

The event will look at the issue of Disruption in Construction – driving technologies and processes for the future and will be held at the Brewery, in London, on Friday 16th November 2018. The main supporter is Trend.

Will will present on ‘how Blockchain may change the format of contracts’.

An unusual combination of data scientist, engineer, planner and strategist, Will has examined how technology will drive and change how we deliver construction and infrastructure projects.

An expert on smart cities, data, BIM, digital engineering and the impact of emerging technology on construction and the built environment, his research focuses around real-time city data, the challenges of long-term urban development and understanding spatial and temporal effects of design.

Based on the Bitcoin protocol, the Blockchain database is shared by all nodes sharing a system. On joining the network, each connected computer receives a copy of the Blockchain, which has records, and stands as proof of, every transaction ever executed. As such, it can assist the construction industry with accurate data necessary for its procurement contracts.

The guest speaker is Andrew Strauss OBE.

The Chair is Oliver Zimmermann, CEO, Condair Group AG. Based in Switzerland, Oliver has been in post since 2012. Condair is an integrated, global market leader in humidification and evaporate cooling and its vision is to deliver productivity, sustainability and health through air and water to achieve extraordinary goals for a successful future.

We live in a world where new inventions, processes and ideas can be a real game changer and disrupt the way do things. The internet, mobile phones and the electric car are just a few we have seen over the last few decades.

This year’s Briefing will look at the technologies and processes we might expect to see in the future and the implications that these innovations may have for building services both in the commercial and residential sector.

The Briefing starts at 9:00 am. Lunch is at 13:00: the event will close at 15.30. More detailed information on the event is available at:
