It is now nine months since the Building Regulations 2006 became law. One of the key features of the Regulations is that it is now a legal requirement to test a new building for airtightness. The only exceptions are for small commercial buildings (below 500m2) where an alternative is to assume an air permeability of 15m3/(h.m2), and in housing where only a sample of dwellings needs to be tested. To meet the growing demand for testing, BSRIA now operates from four locations in the UK - Bracknell, Swansea, St Helens and Belfast. The extensive fleet of fan rovers, supported by state of the art blower door technology for rapid assessment of airtightness in smaller buildings, provides a nationwide 24/7 service to construction companies.
