Overview

Safe and readily available water is important for public health, whether it is used for drinking, domestic use, food production or recreational purposes.

This course has been created to give delegates an overview of the types of systems encountered in a range of buildings including hospitals and industrial installations. 

The types of water services and the importance of comfort, safety, compliance and the use of data are all covered. So too are the legal requirements and regulations, as well as the things that can go wrong.

  • Learn about the importance of terminology and what is essential to remember when managing water services.
  • Appreciate how to approach a variety of water systems.

Who should attend

This course is for those who are responsible for the oversight of building and maintenance contracts, including facility and project managers. If you carry out water treatment or monitoring then this course will also be of benefit.

Course content

  • Mains water and private water supplies; basic hot and cold water
  • Humidifiers; softeners; reverse osmosis
  • Filtration; ultraviolet (UV); rainwater harvesting (on request in advance); greywater reuse
  • Ornamental features (fountains and ornamental water features) and feature irrigation systems (indoor and outdoor gardens)
  • Pools, spas, and hydrotherapy
  • Vehicle and plant washing equipment
  • Point of use water chillers; bottled water dispensers; vending machines; hot water dispensers – tea boilers/point of use heater
  • ACoP L8 for Legionella
  • Private Water Supply Regulations 2016 (as amended)
  • Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2018
  • Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999
  • Health Technical Memorandum 04-01: The control of Legionella, hygiene, “safe” hot water, cold water and drinking water systems - Part A: Design, installation and testing
