Micronics 330 | Ultrasonic flow meter

Contact Instrument Solutions

The PF330 can display instantaneous fluid flow rates or velocity, together with totalised values. It also incorporates a data logger that can record up to 98k events which can be output directly to a PC or printer or stored in the instrument’s memory for downloading at a later time using the Portagraph software.

Not suitable for use on laminated or plated piping.

Features

Product overview

  • Flow Range – 0.1 m / sec to 20 m / sec bi-directional.
  • Display – 64 x 240 pixels graphic display.
  • Programming via 16 key control panel.
  • Battery or mains operation.
  • Battery Life – 20 hours from fully charged, depending on load.
  • Power – 110 – 240 VAC +/- 10 % supply via PSU.
  • Accuracy Pipe ID 13 - 75 mm – ± 3 % of flow reading for fow rate > 0.2 m/s.
  • Accuracy Pipe ID > 75 mm – ± 0.5 % to ± 2 % of flow reading for flow rate > 0.2 m/s.

A variable current or pulse output, proportional to the detected flow rate, is also produced by the PF330 to enable it to interface with a range of external control devices such as those found in building management or site monitoring systems.

The PF330 is very much designed with ‘ease of use’ in mind. An interactive QuickStart menu, which simplifies system installation at any suitable location, together with minimal set-up requirements, means that the system can be installed and brought into service very quickly. Furthermore, the application parameters for a particular site can be saved to non-volatile memory and instantly recalled if a site is revisited for monitoring at a later time – further reducing the set-up time.

The flow sensors, or transducers, connected to the PF330 instrument are attached to the outside of the pipe being monitored and provide totally non-invasive flow measurement without disturbing the existing plant equipment or process operation.

The maximum permissible pipe outside diameter depends on the type of ultrasonic transducer in use –

  • Type ‘A’ transducer – usable with pipes in the range 13 mm to 115 mm
  • Type ‘B’ transducer – usable with pipes in the range 50 mm to 2000 mm
  • Type ‘D’ transducer – usable with pipes in the range 1500 mm to 5000 mm (optional equipment)

The maximum permissible pipe temperature depends on the type of ultrasonic transducer in use –

  • Type ‘A-ST’ (Standard) transducer - 20 °C to + 135 °C
  • Type ‘B-ST’ (Standard) transducer - 20 °C to + 135 °C
  • Type ‘A-HT’* (high temp) transducer - 20 °C to + 200 °C
  • Type ‘B-HT’* (high temp) transducer - 20 °C to + 200 °C
  • Type ‘D’* transducer - 20 °C to + 80 °C

* Note that these transducers are not part of the standard Portaflow 330 kit but can be ordered as optional equipment.

Also available to purchase is the Micronics TM8812 ultrasonic thickness gauge as an optional accessory to accurately measure the thickness of many materials including steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, zinc and PVC. With a resolution of 0.1mm this simple to use device has a range of 1.2 mm to 200 mm and operates on x4 AAA sized batteries.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The Instrument Hire models are supplied with the - ST Type ‘A’ transducers– usable with pipes in the range 13 mm to 115 mm, and the - ST Type ‘B’ transducers – usable with pipes in the range 50 mm to 2000 mm. Pipe wall temperature range - 20 °C to + 135 °C.

Some models of ultrasonic meters are not suitable for use on various plastic materials such as Polybutylene. Please contact our Hire or Sales staff if your application involves these materials for additional advice. Similarly they will not work in galvanised steel or pipes with linings and an alternative measurement technique will be needed in these applications.

The in-use accuracy of ultrasonic flow meters is subject to site conditions such as pipe dimensions, material, transducer location and mounting configuration. Reference to the manufacturer’s instructions is therefore recommended before use to ensure equipment suitability with additional guidance given in BS 8452 : 2010 - Use of clamp-on (externally mounted) ultrasonic flow-metering techniques for fluid applications – Guide.

Not suitable for use on laminated or plated piping.
