As a UKAS accredited laboratory BSRIA combines their expertise and a purpose built test facility to provide clients with recognised test reports for acoustic testing in accordance with the following standards:

  • BS EN ISO 3741 - Determination of sound power levels
  • BS EN 12102 - Determination of the sound power level -Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages, heat pumps and dehumidifiers 
  • BS EN ISO 354 - Determination of sound absorption coefficients and classes
  • BS EN ISO 11654 - Acoustics.  Sound absorbers for use in buildings.  Rating of sound absorption

We operate a specialist 210m³ thermal acoustic reverberation chamber with fully controllable environmental parameters capable of testing a range of products including:

  • Air source and ground source heat pumps
  • Air curtains
  • Air handling units
  • Fan coil units
  • Oil-fired boilers
  • Pumps and fans
  • Sound absorbing materials – e.g. tiles, ceiling panels, floor coverings

As well as standard testing we offer product development days, mock-up testing and independent witness testing at other facilities. Clients are able to witness testing and view live test data.

On site testing can also be carried out, including construction sites, factories, offices, and schools, in order to measure noise and/or vibration levels in accordance with standards and guidelines including:

  • BB93 – Acoustic Design of Schools
  • BS ISO 10816 – Evaluation of machine vibration
  • BS 8233 – Guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings
  • BS 5228 - Code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites 
  • BS EN ISO 3743, BS EN ISO 3746 or BS EN ISO 9614 – Determination of sound power level
