Concept Colt 4 range | Smoke generator

Contact Instrument Solutions

A small, robust smoke generator whose physical size belies its power. In its basic format, the Concept Colt 4 has the ability to produce a considerable amount of smoke 'off power' using the retained energy within the high mass heat exchanger, allowing an operator to carry a generator from room to room, making smoke as required, without a trailing electrical lead. 110 and 240V versions are both available with or without a remote control lead, along with a high output Turbo version.

Features

In service with numerous fire authorities world-wide, many NATO forces (including the USN for shipboard training), as well as analytical laboratories, asbestos removal specialists, and HVAC contractors, the Concept Colt has an enviable reputation for simplicity of operation and reliability.

The Concept Colt 4 variants are particularly suited to applications where extremely dense concentrations of smoke are required, or extremely large volumes of persistent smoke need to be supplied.

All Colts use a one piece aluminium canister that contains the smoke chemical and inert propellant gas required to make smoke. The canisters automatically re-seal after use, so they can be used time and time again until exhausted.

Important note : The one piece canisters contain a propellant gas and can only be shipped by air or sea packed in the appropriate containers and must be supplied with the associated Dangerous Goods paperwork. These shipping items can be supplied by BSRIA Instrument Solutions but are charged for as an extra if ordered. If shipment is required by air or sea we recommend the the re-fillable aerosol cans which can simply be pressurised by a hand pump, airline or inert gas supply on-site. Please see the data sheet for additional details.

Common customer questions & answers

QQuestion From plugging in how long will it take before the unit is ready to produce smoke?
AAnswer Depending on where the unit has been stored typically the time is 4 to 5 minutes.
QQuestion How long will the unit produce smoke for when disconnected from the mains?
AAnswer The unit will produce a large amount of smoke for around 2 minutes.
QQuestion How long does a Colt 4 Canister last?
AAnswer 1 aerosol can should last approximately 20-25minutes of continuous operation.
QQuestion If I hire the Colt 4, can I order extra smoke cannisters?
AAnswer The hire kit includes a smoke cannister; additional cannisters can be ordered, on a sale or return basis, whereby they are charged if opened/used.
QQuestion Should I disable smoke detectors/fire alarms for carrying out a smoke test?
AAnswer Even artificial smoke (if in dense enough conditions) will trigger ionisation / optical, aspirating (eg. VESDA) or video smoke detection systems. "Rate of temperature increase" detectors would not be activated by artificial smoke. These smoke generators are often used by professionals for smoke detector testing!
