Concept Spirit 900 (110V) | Smoke generator

Contact BSRIA Instrumentation

The Spirit 900 is well suited to applications where continuous, high smoke output is required, since it utilises a modular peristaltic pump system rather than conventional, low cost piston pumps.

Using a protected solid state relay for heater switching at zero volts, an IP65 rated digital microprocessor temperature control displaying actual and set temperatures, and splash proof switches and indicators the Spirit 900 does not compromise in the quality of the components used within the system.

Features

The temperature of the heat exchanger is PID controlled so that the heat is pulsed as main set point is reached, minimising overshoot and undershoot.

The pump draws Smoke Fluid A (persistent) or Smoke Fluid B (quickly dispersing) from its integral 2 litre reservoir (or an external reservoir if specified), forcing it into Concept's unique precision machined heat exchanger, where it is vaporised.

On exiting the heat exchanger, the vapour condenses to form dense, white, non toxic smoke, with an incredibly consistent, and small particle size of 0.2 to 0.3 micron mass median diameter.

All Spirit 900's are supplied with a 5 metre remote control.

Important note

All Instrument Solutions Hire models are provided as standard with a 2 L container of smoke fluid type A (persistent). Additional 5 L containers can be obtained when hired on a sale-or-return basis of not used. Hire models are also supplied with a 75 mm duct adaptor and a 3 m (minimum) length of flexible ducting.

Common customer questions & answers

QQuestion Does the smoke fluid leave behind a sticky residue on surfaces?
AAnswer In normal working environments it is impossible to detect any residue on surfaces. However as the smoke fluid is oil based if used for prolonged periods, in an enclosed area, with a high density smoke concentration, some surface degradation is possible.
QQuestion How long does the smoke fluid last?
AAnswer At maximum output the 2L reservoir will last for approximately 40 minutes. The hire unit comes with 2 Litres of fluid in it; if you require extra then this can be supplied in 5 L containers, on a sale or return basis, charged per Litre used.
QQuestion Does the Concept Spirit hire kit come with any ducting?
AAnswer The Concept Spirit 900 hire units come with a 3-inch / 75mm diameter flexible duct, 3m in length approximately.
QQuestion Should I disable smoke detectors/fire alarms for carrying out a smoke test?
AAnswer Even artificial smoke (if in dense enough conditions) will trigger ionisation / optical, aspirating (eg. VESDA) or video smoke detection systems. "Rate of temperature increase" detectors would not be activated by artificial smoke. These smoke generators are often used by professionals for smoke detector testing!
