As part of BSRIA’s INSPIRE programme, we set out to change the perception of engineering careers to young people and improve the awareness of the exciting, diverse and professional careers available.

We work with local schools both independently and through established organisations working towards common goals. In particular, we target Year 9 students (aged 13 – 14) before they choose their GCSE options which can be critical to their career path.

We have been consistently delighted with the quality and enthusiasm of the young people, in particular, their creativity and problem solving for the challenges they were given. We have also been able to offer numerous work experience and even paid work placements during school holidays to attendees who showed a particular interest in our work.

Feedback from this programme has shown an improved awareness of the types of engineering careers available and that many young people would consider becoming engineers in the future.
