BSRIA Technical Standard BTS 1/2019

In collaboration with members and industry BSRIA has developed a standard for testing Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs) and Differential Pressure Control Valves (DPCVs) entitled BSRIA Technical Standard BTS/1 2019 “Test Method for Pressure Independent Control Valves and Differential Pressure Control Valves”

The standard allows for a means of direct comparison of valve performances.  The test results can be compared with the designer’s specification against manufacturer’s technical data.

Standard testing includes:

• Determining the accuracy of the flow rate indicators
• Checking for hysteresis in the valve flow rate as differential pressure rises and falls across the full range
• Analysing the flow characteristics of the valve with an actuator in full operation
• Demonstrating the capability to shut off low flow to the terminal or other device being controlled
• Determining the ageing effect on the constant flow components within the valve
