Overview

This publication states that building services systems require maintenance from the moment they are put into operation until the end of their operating lives. The cost of system maintenance has been demonstrated to represent a significant proportion of the total building operating costs, possibly on a par with the cost of utilities (energy and water). The Guide demonstrates for each stage in the design process how maintenance aspects should be considered, justified and implemented. The Guide has been produced in conjunction with BSRIA Technical Note TN 10/92, Space Allowances for Building Services Distribution Systems - detailed design stage.

Section headings are - Preliminary design, Plantroom space and weight allowances, Plantroom location, Life cycle costs, Calculation of maintenance costs, System comparison, Application of life cycle costs, Detailed design, Design coordination, Plant/Component selection, System design features, Appendices.
