BSRIA is currently completing its yearly Cabling market update of 16 countries and a world report. To most stakeholders’ surprise the global market for structured cabling increased by 10% in 2024, boosted by high growth in sales of products to data centres. Sales of products installed in LAN increased marginally, while sales of data centre products increased by almost 35% worldwide.
The growth in data centres is not geographically evenly distributed. The biggest growth was seen in the US, which is also the largest market for data centres. The hyperscalers started investing heavily in AI infrastructure from the second half of 2024. Other countries that experienced a very good year in 2024 included UAE, Ireland, Spain, India, Saudi Arabia and Norway.
The data centre market is very volatile, and huge spikes in demand typically occur when large hyperscalers build or expand their data centre operations in a specific area.
