Multiplex – BSRIA Case Study February 2025

About Multiplex:

Multiplex is a leading global construction company known for its expertise in delivering complex, large-scale projects across multiple sectors, including commercial, residential, and infrastructure developments. With a commitment to innovation and high standards of performance, Multiplex recognises the importance of equipping its workforce with up-to-date knowledge and skills to handle the technical complexities of modern construction projects.

Goal:

As they continue to take on high-profile, large-scale projects, Multiplex faces the challenge of ensuring their workforce is trained in the latest mechanical and electrical building service systems. The construction industry is continually evolving, with new technologies and interconnected systems emerging regularly. This makes it crucial for staff to stay informed on industry best practices, safety regulations, and the latest installation techniques.

Multiplex required a comprehensive training programme to address their three key needs. Firstly, enhancing knowledge and practical skills related to mechanical and electrical building services systems. Second, ensuring employees could troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively and efficiently on-site. Lastly, training employees at various levels, from newcomers to more experienced personnel, to build a solid foundation in mechanical and electrical systems.

Solution:

BSRIA (Building Services Research and Intelligence Association), was selected to deliver a bespoke mechanical and electrical building services training programme. With our extensive expertise in building services engineering, we designed a tailored training curriculum aimed at addressing the specific needs of Multiplex’s workforce.

The curriculum was developed in collaboration with Multiplex to ensure it was aligned with current industry standards, project-specific requirements, and the diverse experience of the employees.

The training was delivered through a mix of in-person and online learning options:

  • Classroom-Based Workshops: Interactive sessions focused on theory and technical knowledge, where participants engaged with experts in the field.
  • Online Training Modules: For flexibility, BSRIA offered short online courses on the latest regulatory and legislative changes.

Results and Benefits:

Our training programme has delivered significant benefits to Multiplex, with employees gaining a deeper understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and their interconnectivity to the building fabric and occupant wellbeing. Over 250 employees have undertaken the learning programme, and this number is likely to increase to 400 by the end of 2025.

By investing in this high-quality training programme, Multiplex has ensured its workforce remains knowledgeable and safe in an increasingly complex and fast-evolving industry. The collaboration between BSRIA and Multiplex is a prime example of how technical training can directly contribute to the successful delivery of high-profile construction projects.

Multiplex continues to partner with BSRIA for ongoing professional development, recognising the value of training in maintaining their position as an industry leader.

Testimonial from Building Services Operations Lead - David Wilson:

"When we set out to deliver an Introduction to Building Services course for our construction team, BSRIA was our first choice. They worked closely with us to adapt their existing mechanical and electrical courses into a tailored program that met our specific needs. The courses they delivered were well received by our team and provided the in-depth subject knowledge required."
