Trends in BACS and HVAC systems are to focus on energy efficiency driven by regulations, adoption of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and net zero targets. User comfort, indoor air quality and health and safety are other key initiatives to attract and retain staff and to increase office attendance after a period dominated by home and hybrid working. Connectabilty and uptake of cloud services are slowly increasing, but the majority of devices are still using simple analogue technology.

BSRIA published its first Field Device study in February 2020 (the US) followed by China (May 2021) and Europe (Germany, France, Italy and the UK) in October 2021. The US research was carried out before the pandemic so due to this interruption and several requests BSRIA are updating the study which will be published in December 2022.
