Overview

Describes an investigative study comparing 4 UK, 1 American, 1 German and 1 Swedish construction project to highlight productivity problems relating to mechanical and electrical building services and to suggest remedies to solve these problems and improve performance. Focuses on activities specific to on-site works. Divides output into its productive and non-productive components and develops best practice guidelines to maximise productive time and subsequent productivity. Presents a methodology for site productivity measurement complemented by detailed description of the 7 projects monitored together with an analysis of delays and productivity on each of the projects. Finds that if avoidable delays are eliminated and best practice values of task productivity are consistently achieved, the potential labour resource savings of a UK project with a typical M and E mix are 66%.
