Due to potential conflicts arising from working on building projects, there was a need to provide a framework to help stakeholders identify roles and responsibilities within a given project in order to work more effectively and within specified timelines. The product of a working syndicate at a Futures Workshop hosted by BSRIA in April 1991, this Technical Note encapsulates the collaborative findings and proposed solutions of the fifty attendees. This guide has been produced with three specific objectives in mind:
- to explain the root causes of conflict associated with design responsibilities as clearly and accurately as possible
- to propose methods by which the conflict situations identified might be avoided
- to provide a set of pro forma lists of design activities as an aid to implementing the proposed recommendations.
