Buildings are complex entities with numerous systems that need to be properly maintained in order to perform their function effectively, efficiently and safely.
BSRIA’s Statutory Compliance Inspection Checklist is a spreadsheet listing tests, checks and inspections that are required on building services systems required by legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and/or supporting guidance. In addition to the spreadsheet, the guide includes general information about legislation in the UK and guidance on how to use the spreadsheet.
This guide will help facilities managers to plan statutory inspections, ensure compliance with legislation, and ultimately ensure the buildings they are responsible for are safe to occupy.
The spreadsheet is organised by task. For each task (test, check or inspection), the following information is provided:
- System
- Asset
- Minimum required frequency
- Skill level or qualification required
- Recording and record retention period
- Legislation requiring the task to be carried out
- Approved Code of Practice, guidance document or standard giving details of the task
