World heating market overviewJuly 2014

BSRIA’s new World Heating market study 2014, covers Europe, Asia/Pacific, ME & North Africa and North and South American regions. Altogether, the study includes 90 reports analysing Domestic Boiler / Commercial Boiler / Water Heating (including solar thermals) / Radiators and Underfloor Heating world markets.

World Heating, by region volume, %, 2013

In 2013, the world heating market posted a healthy growth of 11% in volume and 13% in value although not all world regions were showing equally good results.

The growth of the world heating market owes much to the positive developments in the sales of domestic boilers and water heaters in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa regions while both European and American markets have seen a small decline of 1 to 2% in the total traditional heating markets.

In terms of volume, Asia Pacific accounted for the largest share of sales of all heating products while in terms of value Europe is holding the largest part of the market.

World Heating, by region, value, %, 2013

The European heating market has also posted a slight growth in value due to the accelerating shift towards more efficient products, to be noted mainly in the boiler market segment where condensing boiler sales keep increasing. In the years to come the European Union area is to see an important change in the boiler market structure following the adoption of the Ecodesign Directive that is setting strict requirements towards the efficiency of heat generators which will become effective from September 2015. It will have a negative effect on the sales of non-condensing boilers, resulting in a very significant decrease in their market share by the end of the decade.
