New Water Quality Standard (BS 8552) supports application of BSRIA's pre-commission cleaning guideJanuary 2013

The launch of British Standard 8552 Monitoring water quality in building services closed systems will take place at BSI, Chiswick, London, on 22nd February 2013. This is a free event but places are limited and attendance requires prior registration on the BSI website.

BS 8552 standard will address the particular issues of sampling heating and chilled water systems in the buildings from construction and pressure testing, through pre-commissioning cleaning to routine operation.

The purpose of such sampling is to establish the physical condition of the system with respect to suspended solids, bacteriological contamination and risk of corrosion throughout the whole life of the building. Following pre-commission cleaning in accordance with BG 29/2012, sampling will be used to verify the success of the pipework flushing and cleaning procedures.

Failure to achieve industry guidelines on system cleanliness could result in expensive remedial work and contractual disputes.

BSRIA's Pre-Commission Cleaning of Pipework Systems (BG 29/2012) is available to purchase for £60 to non-members or £30 to BSRIA members.

One-day training courses in Pre-Commission Cleaning of Pipework Systems take place at BSRIA's Bracknell office several times a year. The next available dates are 13th February and 22nd May.
