BSRIA’s new HVAC Troubleshooting guide (BG 25/2014) replaces the previous edition HVAC Troubleshooting Manual (AG 25/99). View sample
This updated guide describes step by step procedures to identify and solve common problems within typical HVAC systems.
The intention of this guide is to impart a methodology and a basic logical sequence to identify problems experienced on HVAC systems found in most commercial and some domestic premises.
The guide has been designed so it can be used by engineers and managers with different levels of HVAC knowledge. The troubleshooting procedures are presented in order of the affected system or component. A practitioner should first identify the system and component that is exhibiting symptoms and secondly identify the specific symptoms that are occurring. For each symptom, a number of possible causes are given and an action is suggested for each of these.
The sections are colour coded and cover:
- Common items (pumps, motors, variable speed drives and pressurisation units)
The tasks outlined in the guide assume that the technician has a sound knowledge of the investigation/check procedures to be carried out. Control systems may need to be shut down during some of these, either as an individual loop or a whole. Each of the tasks has been assigned a grade of one, two or three stars that indicate the level of ability required to undertake the action.
