The number of jobs in the construction industry rose during each quarter in 2015, despite the increase in the number of jobs there remains a shortage of skilled labour resulting in an increasing demand for skilled resource seeing wages increase.
It is believed that wages will continue to rise in 2016, as the industry struggles to recruit the 200,000 extra workers that it needs, it is believed this will be compounded by work starting on HS2 towards the end of 2016 ahead of construction starting in 2017.
While there are concerns about the shortage of site workers there is also increasing concern that in 2016 and 2017 there will be a shortage of site managers, project managers and quantity surveyors resulting in wage increases across the whole of the industry.
