BSRIA's Colin Pearson has been awarded this year's COMADIT Prize "to recognise significant contribution through research and development in condition monitoring to the benefit of industry and society".
COMADIT is the Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic Technology group of the British Institute of Non-destructive Testing (BINDT). They aim to promote the advancement of technology and application of Condition Monitoring.
The prize was awarded at the Annual Condition Monitoring Conference of the BINDT at the St David's Hotel in Cardiff on 21st June 2011.
Colin has been involved in research and development for Condition Monitoring since he joined BSRIA in 1995, making a significant contribution to the safe use of thermal imaging on electrical installations and developing advanced methods of analysing building fabric with thermal imaging. He has also worked on investigating and promoting the use of all forms of Condition Monitoring in the Building Services industry. He has headed the Condition Monitoring Team at BSRIA for the last 10 years and has recently become Head of Building Performance in BSRIA's Sustainable Buildings Group, a wide ranging group that also covers condition monitoring and condition surveys.
"This award reflects the importance of Condition Monitoring in buildings. Techniques such as thermal imaging have been well researched by BSRIA and provide an effective way to identify defects and faults which would be otherwise unknown." said Colin on receiving the award.
