BSRIA signs up NACE to membershipJune 2019

Stacey Ward, Membership Manager, BSRIA

In a blaze of glory – NACE – the National association of Chimney Engineers – has joined BSRIA membership this month.

The NACE mission is to: ensure the safety of all fuel users in the UK and Ireland, who depend on a chimney or flue for the operation of a heating appliance, by providing a register of competent chimney engineers for all types of chimney work.

NACE is a recognised industry expert within the field of controlled services, (chimneys, flues & combustion appliances) statutory compliance, consumer safety, fire risk and workmanship expertise.

It is a ‘not for profit’ independent organisation that provides both the professional and consumer with technically competent engineering expertise and compliant methods relating to chimney lining/relining, flue and chimney alteration, new build design and construction. Specifically – the NACE cast in-situ concrete lining system (CCLS) type tested by Gastec and recognised by local authorities offering the professional and homeowner a durable alternative with guaranteed longevity.

NACE is a senior federation member of the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) who support their NVQ.L2 in Chimney Engineering. The CITB also recognises the contribution to learning that NACE has made by registering over 25 short duration industry driven CPD modules on its behalf. NACE has, and continues to act, as experts for, and on behalf of, Environmental Health and National Building Control – providing these groups with workshop lecture experiences as well as acting as inspectors and professional witnesses – helping them to educate the contractor and consumer alike.

NACE is committed to removing fire risk from domestic environments, increasing safety standards and to educate operator/end users with regard to the lowering of air pollution as a direct result of burning wood and coal products.

Stacey Ward, Membership Manager, BSRIA, said:

“It is fantastic news that NACE has come into BSRIA membership – and at corporate level. NACE offers the general public direct access to their register of skilled chimney engineers and to their technical/legal data base for professionals and consumers who require technically competent industry expertise or assistance with non-compliant workmanship.

NACE will be able to utilise the expertise of BSRIA and the know-how in this team, it is very much hoped that NACE will play a prominent role within the BSRIA membership family and engage with our networking events.”

Howard Cane, CEO, NACE, said:

“NACE is delighted to have joined BSRIA membership. We are the leading professional chimney engineering association within the UK committed to raising workmanship practices, installation methods and procedures and administration standards and to maintain, as well as to develop safe use of appliances connected to controlled services.

NACE maintains a register of competent chimney specialists who are able to provide installation services as well as mechanical inspections within known domestic and commercial environments.

We are dedicated to the needs and safety of the professional and consumer alike where work to, or on a controlled service, is to take place. Adherence to statutory and regulatory documentation, compliance and liability are just a few of the professional areas we consult and advise on. NACE Consultancy Services provides valuable life support assistance to its members, professionals and the consumer in either the domestic or commercial environment.

I hope by joining BSRIA we may jointly provide our industry with necessary industry training opportunities in areas such as; Business Administration, Contract Consumer Law, Technical Competence, Fire Risk & Consumer Safety, Period Property Renovation as well as a route to achieving NVQ Chimney Engineering status.”
