Alasdair Donn is a Principal Energy Solutions Engineer in Willmott Dixon’s Energy Services group and has a strong track record in building performance evaluation and testing. Alasdair joined Willmott Dixon’s internal sustainability and energy services team in early 2007 as Principal Consultant, and manages the team responsible for all support on building energy performance issues on new-build/major projects for all internal and external construction clients.

Alasdair has carried out performance evaluation studies on a wide range of buildings from new-build schools to refurbished offices, and including several in-depth evaluations of domestic properties from the as-built stage to 2 years post completion. Alasdair has carried out and managed project support for new-build and major refurbishment projects in the following areas:

  • Post Occupancy Evaluations (POEs) on recently completed projects, where WD assists in long-term client support by providing in-depth occupant feedback and operational energy studies on buildings during their post-completion phase
  • PassivHaus building design for ultra-low energy performance
  • Soft Landings project support to help ensure low-energy design intentions are translated to successful building performance in use
  • As-built testing of building fabric thermal performance including thermal imaging, elemental U value measurement, and whole-house heat loss (co-heating test) evaluations
  • Building performance monitoring projects where in-use performance, in terms of energy use and internal building environment, are studied in depth
  • Assured Energy Performance approach on projects where detailed energy performance targets form part of the contract specification, and are tracked through design, construction and first years of occupation

Alasdair holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London and has over 20 years’ experience in a range of engineering, commercial and strategic management roles within the process engineering and water/wastewater treatment industry.

He has been a member of the BSRIA Soft Landings Network for the last 5 years and has presented papers and seminars at Ecobuild, CIBSE and other organisations in the building performance field. He now lectures on BSRIA's Soft Landings Level 1 course.
